Thirteen mothers attended the 2nd MOMS’ Day ( Making Our Mothers Special ) Day.

Eleven (11) Pilarino mothers and two (2 ) Albayano mothers participated in the annual post-Mother’s Day Celebration through seminar-workshop . The event with the theme ” Engage the Mothers, Educate the MOMS, Empower the Families” was held to encourage mothers to be better ” Ilaw ng Tahanan” and be better “Nanay-Guro” and “Nanay-Preneur.”

The part 1 the program was a Lecture-Forum on the Benefits of Read Aloud with a nurse and literacy advocate, Sherraine M. Lim of Legazpi City, Albay. She stressed the role of read aloud in language development and in the bonding of the child between the mother.She also discussed the different benefits of the read aloud according to different studies and evidences proven by Science.

Part 2 of the program was the Conversation With The Mothers handled by a mother and Read Aloud advocate, Prof. Roseville Nidea of Bicol University College of Arts and Letters. She shared her experiences as a mother of a child and how reading aloud helped her and her only son. According to her, read aloud is an investment. “It does not give you immediate result. It is a battle in a long run. In the end, it will have a good result”, she narrated.

She shared personal struggle and gave tips to the mothers. The mother-participants asked questions and gave their views on the ideas presented.

After the program, the participants received free reading materials.

The event was sponsored by the Pilar Reading Center, an advocacy and literacy program for kids, youth and the mothers, whom all consider as children’s first teachers.
